Pain Management

Don’t let pain take control of your life

Customized prescription compounding offers patients unique options for pain medication. Compounding is the art and science of preparing customized medications for patients.

Everyone experiences some sort of pain in their lives and pain comes in many forms. From a muscle strain, stress-induced headache, injury at work, accident, or chronic pain that you live with on a daily basis. Research shows that 100 million people in the US suffer from chronic pain, and approximately 1 in 10 Americans have experienced pain every day for three months or more. Pain is one of the most common symptoms individuals seek medical help for.

Many commonly prescribed, commercially available pain relief medications can result in unwanted side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, or stomach irritation. Some patients have gotten used to living with these side effects, but they shouldn’t have to.

Pharmacy compounding offers patients customized options for pain medication

Every type of pain is just as unique as the person experiencing it. Our pharmacist can work with your healthcare provider on prescription treatment options tailored specifically for your pain management needs.

Alternate Dosage Forms/Combination Formulas

Some patients struggle with taking commercially available pain medications due to the dosage form or unpleasant side effects such as stomach irritation. Pharmacy compounding can provide alternate dosage delivery methods to make the process easier. Dosage forms that may bypass the gastrointestinal tract may be a better option for these patients. A variety of medications can be combined into a single gel or cream and be applied directly to the site of pain and absorbed through the skin, thus providing greater convenience for the patient as well. Other dosage forms include sprays, oral troches (custom-flavored), nasal sprays or suppositories. These such dosage forms may provide optimal results with less GI irritation, and help patients who have difficulty swallowing pills.

Strength Variations

Because of the differences in patients’ individual size, symptoms, and pain tolerance, commercially available medications may sometimes not provide the appropriate dosage strength. Through compounding, a prescriber and pharmacist can customize the dosage and form that best suits the patient’s needs.

Common Conditions Treated With Compounds:

Back pain
Diabetic neuropathy
Facial pain
Fibromyalgia
Migraines
Palliative Care
Neuropathic pain
Sports injuries/therapy
And more

Pharmacy compounding may help improve a patient’s quality of life by providing relief with potentially fewer side effects and less overall medication.

Pain Management Consultations

Pain management is essential. Many Americans cannot get the relief they desperately need due to high copays, the strength or dosage form they need is currently unavailable or the combination of medications they need would be too costly. Our pharmacist can work with your healthcare provider on prescription treatment options tailored specifically for your pain management needs.

$45.00*Consultation fee does not include the cost of prescriptions your prescriber sends. There is no consultation fee with a prescriber referral.
