Thyroid Imbalance

Many patients feel that their thyroid levels may not be optimal. An autoimmune response to the thyroid gland (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis) or a dysfunction of the thyroid gland can be the cause of the long list of symptoms that can occur. Thyroid function is affected by vitamin and mineral deficiencies as well and so this can lead to poor conversion of our inactive thyroid hormone to our active thyroid hormone.

Symptoms of Thyroid Imbalance

Symptoms of low thyroid need to be considered as many times only part of the labs are checked and appear in normal range. Proper testing will help to determine what the issue or dysfunction might be. Some symptoms do overlap with hormone levels out of balance and so it is typically advised to be sure hormone levels are checked as well.

Symptoms include:

Fatigue
Dry skin
Weight gain/difficulty losing weight
Cold intolerance
Depression
Hair loss
Loss of hair on outer eyebrows
Enlarged thyroid gland and or goiters
Hoarse voice
Constipation
Brittle fingernails with ridging
Poor concentration/foggy thinking
Heart palpitations
Irritability
Hot flashes/night sweats
Menstrual cycle irregularities

Thyroid hormone replacement can be compounded to fit the needs of each patient. A manufactured product may not be the right strength or combination for the patient. For some patients it can even be as simple as intolerance of the inert ingredients used in manufacturing and so compounding is an excellent way to avoid these fillers.
