What is Compounding?
Compounding has been a part of pharmacy since it began. Pharmacists would need to prepare medications for patients using raw materials, to create a formula per a doctor’s order.
The need and demand for compounding has increased in recent years for numerous reasons:
– Some patients have allergies to certain ingredients and cannot tolerate a manufactured product.
– Medications may not be available in a form that a patient can use.
– Some patients may not fit into the strengths that are manufactured.
With compounding, many different preparations can be made in different dosage forms. Gels, creams, sublingual troches, capsules, lollipops, suppositories, and liquids to name a few. Preparations can be made without fillers that a patient may be allergic to, or in a form made to last longer throughout the day and night.
If you have a special need, please let us know and we will be glad to see what we might be able to do to help you. We are happy to share information with your medical provider to explain what we can prepare, so that we can work as a team to solve a medication problem.
